The fragrance industry’s product stewardship program – Webinar Wednesday 29 January
Our 29 January webinar will introduce the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) and its product stewardship program, the IFRA Standards, which has been in place for over 50 years. IFRA experts Dr Mattias Vey and Jennifer Doris will provide insight into the process of developing the IFRA Standards, what they typically encompass and how they are implemented.

Dr Matthias Vey is a chemist by training from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. After his studies and a short period of training as a perfumer he started in fragrance research and development for Marbert Cosmetics in Düsseldorf, Germany. He then became global regulatory affairs manager for Coty/Lancaster in Mainz, Germany. In 2000 Dr Vey joined IFRA. In his current position as Vice President Scientific Affairs he is responsible for the fragrance industry’s worldwide safe use program, known as the IFRA Standards. He also manages all of IFRA’s science related committees and is strongly engaged in IFRA’s advocacy activities. He is further responsible for the management of the International Dialogue on the Evaluation of Allergens (IDEA), a multi-stakeholder initiative. He regularly presents at international meetings and conferences, including the Safety Course at the free university of Brussels.
Dr Jennifer Dorts holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Namur, Belgium. During her years in academia, she developed a strong scientific foundation by managing multiple research projects focused on the effects of chemicals on aquatic organisms. She later expanded her expertise by gaining valuable experience in chemical regulations over the course of her career. In 2020, Jennifer joined IFRA as a Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Manager. In this role, she primarily oversees the system ensuring the safe use of fragrance ingredients (the IFRA Standards) and coordinates IFRA’s scientific activities related to Natural Complex Substances (NCS) and environmental matters.
Robert H.A. McPherson (moderator) has been in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry for over 15 years. He obtained a Degree in Chemistry from The University of Strathclyde (Scotland) specializing in Forensic and Analytical Chemistry. After 4 years at a multinational company in Glasgow as a Research and Quality Development Chemist, Robert immigrated to Australia where he worked in various labs on projects ranging from developing and testing new cystic fibrosis drugs to home and personal care product testing and development. Robert is currently the SEA & AnZ Business Manager for Lubrizol Life Science – Beauty and Home care, where he leads the team in this region. Robert is a Past President of the Australian Society of Cosmetic Chemists (ASCC), a position he held for over 3 years. He was awarded the inaugural ASCC educational award in 2019 and has three times won the ASCC Lester Conrad award for best paper presented at the Annual ASCC Conference. He joined the IFSCC Praesidium in 2022 on the Presidential track in anticipation of the 2026 IFSCC Adelaide Congress.
