ASCS conference in Goa draws 200+

The Asian Societies of Cosmetic Science (ASCS) enjoyed a “three-day scientific extravaganza” of a Conference in Goa this year, organised by the Indian Society of Cosmetic Chemists (ISCC) from 6-8 March 2024. Over 200 delegates from India and Asia were treated to outstanding speakers from India and around the world, including two speakers as part of the IFSCC International Speakers Programme (ISP). Dr Tomonobu Ezure (Shiseido, Japan) attended in person to present Cutting-edge skin research: the key to innovative cosmetics in person, while Prof Roger McMullen (Principal Scientist, Ashland, LLC and Adjunct Professor, Biochemistry, Fairleigh Dickinson University, USA ) presented remotely, covering the History of Natural Ingredients in Cosmetics.

With an overarching theme of ‘Evidence based sustainable sensorial science: Where traditional knowledge meets modern science’, the event was structured into 6 themes.

  • Evidence based beauty and wellness through functional ingredients
  • New sensory trends in formulations
  • Next generation perfumery and aroma chemicals
  • Evolving safety and regulatory landscape
  • Sustainable supply chains and circular economy
  • New and emerging science (Poster session only)

The 28 Podium presentations included plenary and invited lectures, as well as the two IFSCC Lectures. The Poster Session presented 35 Posters, all of which were eligible for the Poster Competition.

The Conference concluded with the Valedictory Session and Awards for Best Paper and Poster ceremony. The winners were:

  • Best Podium Presentation: Sho Iguchi (Technoble Co Ltd Japan)
  • 1st Prize Poster: Shiro Mukae (MIRAI Technology Institute, Shiseido, Japan)
  • 2nd Prize Poster: Sudhakar DGS (L’Oréal R&I, Bangalore, India)
  • 3rd Prize Poster: Devi Shirisha Janni (ITC Lifescience, India)
  • Special Prize Poster: Shraddha K (Cosmetic Formulator)
  • Special Prize Poster: Satoshi Yoshimoto (Nikko Chemicals Co Ltd, Japan)

The Valedictory Session closed with a handover to the Philippines Society, who will host the 2025 ASCS Conference.
