KOSMET: A time for research
“At this time, when our daily lives have been reduced to a minimum, we stay largely at home, working from there and also taking time to study publications that might fit our businesses or interests,” says Karl Raabe, Editor of the IFSCC’s KOSMET Scientific Literature Database. “And when one comes across a subject that covers something like microbiology our attention might be particularly caught. That’s exactly what happened to me when I was working on the proceedings of the 50th International Symposium on Essential Oils (ISEO 2019), which took place in Vienna, Austria 9-11 September 2019.

“The paper is focused on food systems, to Listeria monocytogenes, which is an occurring food pathogenic bacteria, and where Origanum vulgare essential oil strongly affects the growth behavior of this bacteria.”
The abstract of this publication can be found in www.KOSMET.com using the title or key words such as Origanum vulgare, antibactrerials, preservatives, biopreservatives, combinations, sodium chloride, treatments, Listeria monocytogenes, food products, research, universities, Italy and/or Conference ISEO Vienna Austria.
“For me it was interesting to read the expression ‘biopreservative’ for the first time. While this publication is looking at a totally different area to our current experience of living with Coronavirus, it feels like a small positive sign on the horizon of microbiology as a subject as a whole.”
