Barae Jomaa addresses annual German event as ISP speaker

23 October 2025

The latest society to take advantage of the IFSCC International Speakers Programme (ISP) is Germany’s DGK, one of the organisers of the annual SEPAWA Congress, a popular meeting for Europe’s detergents, cosmetics and perfumery industries, held in Berlin since 2017.

Filling one of the cosmetics slots on 15 October was ISP speaker Dr Barae Jomaa, whose presentation attracted 150-180 attendees. Dr Jomaa is a Principal Toxicologist and International Regulatory Lead at Colonial Chemical Inc. He has over 14 years’ experience in toxicology, regulatory affairs and scientific communication and spearheads international regulatory initiatives at his company. He is a staunch advocate for animal welfare and environmental protection and is passionate about scientific innovation. He is also Founder and Editor in Chief of the Journal of the Netherlands Society of Toxicology (JNST).

Dr Jonah’s topic at SEPAWA  was ‘Animal testing for cosmetic safety: Challenges of REACH and global regulations’. He explored the regulatory intricacies arising from the overlap between the EU’s Cosmetics Regulation and the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation, addressing the ethical dilemmas and challenges manufacturers face in complying with the regulations.
