Young Scientist Research Publication Award in honor of Henry Maso
The Young Scientist Research Publication Award in honor of Henry Maso is presented at IFSCC Congresses in even-numbered years to the Author of the best paper by a young scientist in an issue of the IFSCC Magazine published in the preceding two years (for the 2028 award specifically, published after the IFSCC 2025 Cannes Congress but before the IFSCC 2027 Basel Congress).
The author must be not older than 40 years on the date of the paper submission. The winner is awarded a trip to the next IFSCC Congress to accept the Award, with the cost of travel, accommodations and registration fees up to 5,000 CHF being reimbursed by the IFSCC. Who is Henry Maso?

- Henry F. Maso was an industry icon and a cornerstone of our federation. He served as President of the IFSCC in 1983 and was a dedicated member of the cosmetic science community for over 50 years, known for his wisdom, integrity, and commitment to mentoring the next generation of scientists. In 1971, Maso received the SCC’s highest honor, the Maison G. de Navarre Medal Award, a recognition of his outstanding scientific contributions to the field. Beyond leadership, he was deeply committed to education — teaching cosmetic chemistry courses for the SCC throughout his career and mentoring countless professionals entering the industry.
Requirements for 2028 applicants
- Be a member of an IFSCC-affiliated Society
- Be not older than 40 years on the date of the paper submission to the IFSCC Magazine (can be up to 40 years, 364 days old)
- Not submit the same paper for the 2028 IFSCC Las Vegas Congress
- Not be the winner of the 2027 Maison G de Navarre Young Scientist Prize
How to apply
The 2028 IFSCC Congress will be held in Las Vegas, USA.
- Submit the paper
The applicant enters the competition by first submitting a full scientific paper in English on cosmetic or cosmetic related disciplines for publication by the IFSCC Magazine (for all Authors, send to editorinchief@ifscc.org), indicating that they wish to be considered for the Young Scientist Research Publication Award in honor of Henry Maso. - Submission details
After submitting the paper for publication to the Editor , the paper and completed entry form should be sent electronically to the IFSCC Science Chair, cc’ing the Secretary General at secretariat@ifscc.org Note that there is no firm deadline for submission. However, papers should be submitted for publication in the IFSCC Magazine and entry forms submitted by 31 March 2027 to allow sufficient time to be published in 2027. - Proof of age

2024
Anna Okishima (Shiseido, Japan) was the winner of the 2024 Young Scientist Research Publication Award in honor of Henry Maso for her paper Transcending the Limitation of Cosmetics: Ionic Liquids-inspired Novel Skin Penetration System as an Alternative to Medical Beauty Treatments, published in the IFSCC Magazine Vol.26 (1) 71-75. IFSCC covered Anna’s expenses (including travel, hotel and registration fees up to CHF 5,000) to attend the IFSCC 2024 Iguazu Falls, Brazil Congress where her award was presented officially on stage at the Opening Ceremony. - 2022
The 2022 Young Scientist Research Publication Award in honor of Henry Maso winner, Dr Maxime Lègues of France received his award during the IFSCC 2022 London Congress for his paper The World’s First 3D Bioprinted Immune Skin Model Suitable for Screening Drugs and Ingredients for Normal and Inflamed Skin. - 2020
The 2020 Young Scientist Research Publication Award in honor of Henry Maso winner, Dr Lee Ka Heng of Malaysia, received his award scroll in person at the 2022 IFSCC London Congress as both the 2020 IFSCC Yokohama Congress and the 2021 Cancún Congress were held virtually. Dr Heng’s award winner paper is entitled Unveiling new science of skin glycation from molecular characterization to clinical validation. - 2018
The 2018 Young Scientist Research Publication Award in honor of Henry Maso winner is Nelly Dubrulle from France for her paper DNA metabarcoding as a tool to trace plants of interest in ingredients or cosmetics. Her trip and registration fees for the 2018 Congress in Munich, Germany (18-21 September 2018) was covered by the IFSCC and she was presented with her illuminated scroll during the Congress. - 2016
The winner for 2016 was John Jimenez of Bogotá, Colombia. John’s winning paper was the Application of Eye-Tracking Methodology for Fragrance Evaluation. He was presented with his illuminated scroll at the IFSCC 29th Congress held in Orlando, Florida (USA) in October 2016. As the 2016 Young Scientist Research Publication Award in honor of Henry Maso winner, his trip to Orlando and registration fees for the Congress were covered by the IFSCC. - 2013
Shuting Hu from the Hong Kong Society won the 2013 Young Scientist Research Publication Award in honor of Henry Maso for her paper Activity and mechanism of natural resorcinol type phenolics from the twigs of Cudrina trieuspidata as skin whitening agents. - 2011
The first Young Scientist Research Publication Award in honor of Henry Maso winner (2011) was Theeraya Krisaphong from Thailand for her paper Antimicrobial activity of Garcinia mangostana extract for anti-acne.
